Notes for Pamela Ann Greenwood
I am the Pamela Greenwood on your family tree, the daughter of Marjorie George, daughter of Regina Victoria Novelli, daughter of Alessandro Nicola Novelli (from Frassineto Po in Piedmont, not his surname) and Luigia Fregona, daughter of Giacinto Fregona and Rachele Piol. The Novellis lost contact with the Fregonas a long time ago but my mother, Lawrence son of Alexander Francis (now Novellie), started searching and now there are some links. I think my mother met up with David Dominic when we had done the first draft of the family tree on a visit to South Africa.
In the 1980s I visited Limana in the province of Belluno where Giacinto and Rachele lived just before they emigrated and have a huge pile of notes and a family tree. They actually appear to have lived in a hamlet of Limana (Limana Alta - I need to check) up mountain from the main town. As life goes, I found all this in my last couple of days in Italy and spent them trawling through parish registers and never got to the actual site. With my late mother I have also tracked the Novellis back. There are some odd gaps in the tree and I need to get out my notes and do some more work. However I have some patchy bits of what must be the same people, but need to search the marriages to confirm relationships going back into the 1700s at least. I am sending my nearly 19 year old son. Alexander Francesco, to the Dolomites next year, all being well, to learn Italian, find out about Venetian/Ladin (they won't be teaching that language) and to learn about his Dolomite roots.
There are Novellis in South Africa,one grandson of Alexander Francis and another over here - last heard of in the Isle of Man. Descendents of Arthur George are in South Africa too.
